Is anyone else worried about next season?
Anderson on he’s way out along with yarmolenko and Reid

Balbuana released .

Lanzini, Antonio injury prone

We need to sign players before we sell. Our squad is already thin.

If we don’t sign at least a player in every position we could struggle in the league next season. I hope I’m wrong!

Re: Is anyone else worried about next season?
I wouldn’t say worried, but I think we will struggle to finish in the top half next season.

We will be playing more games which will stretch our tiny squad. Three of our best players have had a busy summer at the Euros and will need a good break. We need reinforcements all over the pitch, not least in attack and those signings will be crucial.

I think we will get one more season with Rice before he has to move on. It’s a shame because we have a platform to build off but deep down we know that the owners will keep their hands in their pockets.

We are stuck in a continual loop between hope, disappointment and despair.

I'm so worried. It's keeping me up at night not knowing if we'll finish 15th or 5th.

If only I could stop worrying, see who we sign, and look forward to a new season of football.

Re: Is anyone else worried about next season?
ioc, yeah worried is probably the wrong expression, it's more expecting those factors to either play a big part in our season or just one of them can derail our hopes and has been the case for years........I am though still patient and live in hope Moyes has convinced the owners to not stick but twist in the transfer market.........

I agree we need reinforcements and the small tight squad does not completely work with four competitions.

One thing about Europe though this time, we start later and stumbling in a game or two is not the end of the road this time. We have to the middle of September and we don't enter into the League Cup until the 3rd round.

Last time we had a manager who was busy jumping on desks a little over month before our first European game. And a best player that was half way out the door and was allowed to train if he felt like it.

I will be worried and it will be travesty if we have not brought anyone in by the end of the month. But I am not quite there yet.

Re: Is anyone else worried about next season?
We don't normally have back to back good seasons. I think with the extra European games and perhaps some of the fine margins not going for us next season that did this past one (not to mention general good luck with injuries on the whole) I don't think we'll be anywhere near top six again.

Also with our owners I can't see the level of investment needed being made to push on either.

But with Moyes I don't feel a 'bad season' would be anywhere near as bad as they have been previously.

I think comfortably mid table 10th - 12th.

Re: Is anyone else worried about next season?
Yeah I am a little.

The younger prospects seem to be slipping through our fingers, we do the ground work to find them then others step in with better deals.

Any prospect that played in the Euros will now be 'all of the money' and will therefore not be of interest to dodgy Dave the Poundland bargain hunter.

That being said, Euros and WC always mess up the Window and there is one Dave that we trust so hope I am just being a worrier.

I agree with what you say but i just think its bit early to soil the undies!

Moyes has shown thus far a pretty good astuteness in the transfer market, just think it a bit early to be getting all negative about things, also expect a good bit of business will be done once the Euros conclude.

If this was early August, the yes i would be what the fuck is going on.

Have saome faith.....

Re: Is anyone else worried about next season?
Many have said it's nothing to do with those players leaving on the OP Sydney....the worry is the owners letting Moyes down with his plan......Euros happening and 3 of our best players likely to be either rested or jaded at the start of the new season, repeating last seasons fairly good luck with injuries (seems to be once every ten years or so this happens for us) and the little problem of a small squad and European football when we clearly struggled last season to put out a decent side in the domestic cups.......

Re: Is anyone else worried about next season?
Absolutely bricking it if the rumours are true that we have let Anderson go and Reid and Yarmalenko may also leave the club.

This trio had such an impact last season, how will we cope without them?

Re: Is anyone else worried about next season?
The board weren't actually beating applicants for the manager's job off with a shitty stick, so no pride to swallow and no kudos gained.

Moyes wasn't exactly spoilt for choice regarding clubs seeking his services either, so let's not read too much into the re-appointment; it was simply a marriage of convenience that seems to be working out - but we all know what can happen in a marriage.

Re: Is anyone else worried about next season?
I didn't predict we would do quite so well as we did, but I did think we would have a decent season as Moyes 'gets it' and is an old school manager who doesn't tolerate passengers and show ponies. Hence why Anderson was shipped out on loan and Benrahma struggled to make the starting XI last season.

He is exactly the time of manager West Ham needed after the fiasco of Pellegrini's reign and I have confidence in him.

Kudos to Sullivan and Gold for swallowing their pride and re-hiring him.

Re: Is anyone else worried about next season?
Nah, you can't predict what's going to happen in one particular season. But I'm pretty confident he'll be a great manager in the long-term.

Did you predict our success this season, Benrahma son?

Re: Is anyone else worried about next season?
I think the euros has delayed business as usual but I have to think we have some targets that were following up on, maybe they are doing the right thing for once and keeping transfer business behind the scenes and not played out in the press.

I always worry about us going into a season, you never know how it’s going to pan out. We got so so Lucky with injuries last year, and it’s rare we have two really good seasons on the spin. I don’t see us repeating last season with the added Europa obligations. A decent run in that completion, a domestic cup run and a top half finish would be something.

Re: Is anyone else worried about next season?
This is the time that our beloved owners need to have belief and give Moyes as much as they can possibly muster. Look down the sides of the sofa if they have to.

I've lived through one major fuck up (selling Rio rather than investing). and if we don't try and push on from here I doubt I'll see a chance like this again.

Darby_ 3:53 Thu Jul 8
Re: Is anyone else worried about next season?
Because, as I said, Johnson, Moyes is a very good manager who will likely have a very good long-term career at West Ham, even if we have a disappointing second season. A very successful long-term career would mean that a disappointing second season was not a false dawn.

Got that? Need me to explain it to you again?

Johnson 3:43 Thu Jul 8
Re: Is anyone else worried about next season?
You don’t think it’s a false dawn yet as you say it could go either way.

Searing insight, Darby, what would we do without you?

Darby_ 3:39 Thu Jul 8
Re: Is anyone else worried about next season?
I don’t think it’s a false dawn. I think Moyes is a very good manager and he’ll go on to have a very good long-term career at West Ham. I wasn’t at all surprised by the success of this season, unlike some.

But disappointing seasons do happen and it’s interesting how often disappointing second seasons happen to us. And it happened to Moyes at Everton too. They finished 17th in his second season before he took them to fourth and the Champions League in their third season.

As I say, it could go either way for us. We could have a bad start, have a collapse in confidence and finish 17th, or a great start like last season and finish fourth.

Re: Is anyone else worried about next season?
iphammer - only one of the players you mention made a significant contribution last season, and even he only played about half of our games. Not a problem. New signings will arrive and two or three youngsters will step up as squad players.
